Our Beliefs
The Scriptures
The Bible is God’s Word to us. It was written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is the supreme source of truth for Christian beliefs and living. Because it is inspired by God, it is truth, without errors, and its main theme is the redemption of man through Jesus Christ. The Bible is the collection of sixty six books from Genesis to Revelation. We reject all other writings which claim to be, include, or supplement the Holy Scripture. The Bible does not only contain and convey the Word of God, but is the very Word of God. It is the instruction by which we have faith, the light by which we live, and the guidance by which we have hope. Ps. 119:105; 2 Tim. 3:15-16; Heb. 4:12; 2 Pet. 1:21
God: The Father
We believe that there is one, and only one, loving and true God. He is the Creator and Ruler of the universe. He has existence in three personalities, called the Trinity. The Trinity is God’s tri-personal existence as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In the nature of one God, there are three eternal distinctions which are revealed to us as three persons. Deut. 6:4; Ps. 90:2; Is. 45:21-22; Mark 12:29; John 4:24; 1 John 5:7
God: The Son
Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He is co-equal with the Father, and in fact He is God. He has always been God, and will always be God. He came to earth in the form of a man two thousand years ago. He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, offered Himself as our sacrifice for sin, and rose from the dead. Because of Christ’s sinless life, He was resurrected, and He demonstrated His power over sin and death. He ascended to Heaven’s glory, where He makes intercession for Christians on a daily basis. He will return someday to earth, first in the air, to “rapture, or catch away” those who are saved. Then, He will return as King of kings and Lord of Lords, to rule over the earth. Matt. 1:21-23; John 1:1-4, 14; Phil. 2:5-11; Heb. 9:24; Heb. 9:28; 1 Pet. 2:24; 1 Pet. 3:18; 1 Thess. 4:13-17
God: The Spirit
The Holy Spirit is co-equal with the Father and the Son of God. He is present in the world to make men aware of their need of Jesus Christ. For the Christian, the Holy Sprit lives within every one of us from the moment of salvation, provides power for becoming more like Christ, helps us in understanding spiritual truth, convicts us of sin, gives us a spiritual gift at the time of salvation, and intercedes for us in prayer. As Christians, we seek to live under His control daily. We believe that the Holy Spirit comforts and intercedes on our behalf to the Father. We believe in the power of the Holy Spirit. We are, however, a non-charismatic church. We believe that the “sign gifts” specifically given to the apostles (tongues, prophesy, the ability to heal) faded out in the first century as the Bible was completed. Acts 5:34; John 14:16-17, 26; John 16:7-8; Eph. 1:13-14; 1 Cor. 13:8-10
Man
At the time of creation, God made Adam and Eve in the spiritual image of God, to be like Him in character. Men and women were created as a direct result of God’s creative will. When God formed man out of the dust of the earth, and breathed into him the breath of life, He gave him personality, intellect, emotions, will, and soul. God desires to have a loving relationship with His creation. Both Adam and Eve were given a free will. They had the opportunity for obedience and disobedience. Unfortunately, their choice was to disobey God’s command. This pursuit of selfish desire is called “sin”. Because of their sin, each of us is born with a sinful nature. Our sin separates us from a holy and righteous God. Sin, which we willfully commit, condemns each of us. Because God created us with an eternal soul, we will spend eternity in either heaven or hell. God, because of His love for us, gave His Son, Jesus Christ, to make payment for our sin, so that we may be saved. Gen. 1:27; Ps. 8:3-6; Is. 59:1-2; Rom. 5:12; Rom. 5:8-9
Salvation
We believe that we have all sinned Our sin, which we willfully commit, separates us from a holy and righteous God. Our salvation, or how our sins are forgiven, is a free gift from God. God, taking on the form of Jesus Christ, died on the cross and resurrected from the dead, making it possible for our sin to be forgiven. We can never do anything on our own that will purchase our salvation. Jesus died on the cross to take our place and pay the price we owe for our sins. It is only by trusting in Jesus Christ, asking Him to forgive us of our sins, and be the Lord of our lives, that we can be saved. John 3:16-18; Rom. 3:10-11; Rom. 5:1; Titus 3:5; Acts 4:12
Security of the Believer
The Bible clearly teaches that there is nothing that we can do to earn our salvation. This “eternal life”, is given to us by God through Jesus Christ. Just as we cannot go back in time and be born into someone else’s family, we cannot undo our spiritual birth. Salvation is offered and maintained by the grace and power of God, not by our own self- efforts as Christians. Christ’s sacrifice on the cross covered all of our sins, those in the past, those we commit in the present, and those we are going to commit in the future. Our sin will affect our fellowship with God, but it does not end or interrupt our relationship with God. John 5:24, 10:27-30; Rom. 8:1; 2 Tim. 1:12; Heb. 7:25-27; 1 John 5:11-13
The Church
We believe that the Church is a visible, local assembly of a body of people, made up of saved individuals who have been scripturally baptized and united in doctrine, direction and love for one another. We believe that the Church’s authority comes from Jesus Christ, as stated in Matthew 16:18. The Church doctrine, or what the Church believes, allows the Church to continue being the proper Biblical authority. Proper Biblical doctrine is the basis of Christ’s commission to the Church, and can be traced back to the time of Jesus and the apostles. It is God’s will for each Christian to have a Church home of which they are a member. Matt. 16:16-18; Matt. 28:18-20; Acts 2:41-42, 46-47; 1 Cor. 1:10; 1 Cor. 12:25-27; Heb. 10:2-25
Eternity
We believe that when God created Adam and Eve, He created them to live forever. Their sin brought about death. They immediately died spiritually, and began the process of physical death. Adam and Eve’s soul did not die. Our souls were created to live forever. At the time of our physical death, we will either exist eternally with God or apart from God. Those who accept Christ as Savior will live forever with God in heaven. Everyone who has rejected Christ as Savior will live forever separated from God in hell. Eccl. 12:7; John 3:36; John 14:1-3; Rom. 5:12; Heb. 9:27; Rev. 20:13-15
